Title: Utility Porter

Department: General Services

Reports to: General Services Manager

The general responsibilities for the Porter position include general cleaning (indoors and outdoors), sweeping, vacuuming and buffing floors, shampooing carpets, power washing, maintaining the cleanliness of bathrooms or office spaces, and moving furniture.

The position requires both indoor and outdoor work including snow removal (hand-shoveling and heavy lifting). Employees in this position must be able to routinely lift at least 50 pounds and stand on their feet for several consecutive hours at a time in the performance their routine.

The position is a full-time (40 hours per week) swing shift position (the work schedule with fluctuate) and weekend work is a requirement.

The porter position is a union represented role and employees are required to join the Local 32BJ union after 30 days of employment.

Typical Duties:

•    Use cleaning supplies to clean surfaces, walls etc.
•    Mop, sweep and vacuum floors by hand.
•    Ride and navigate commercial floor cleaning equipment and/or snow removal equipment.
•    Replenish bathroom supplies.
•    Pick up debris, remove trash and empty waste receptacles; replace liners.
•    Move heavy furniture, set up and break down chairs.
•    Shovel snow with hand shovel (during winter season).
•    Lift and place carpets on floor during rain.
