Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts (LCPA) serves three primary roles: it is the world’s leading presenter of superb artistic programming, is a national leader in arts education and community relations, and functions as the manager of the Lincoln Center campus, which is home to 11 separate resident organizations. LCPA presents over 350 performances annually throughout our different performance series including American Songbook, Great Performers, Live from Lincoln Center, Mostly Mozart Festival, Midsummer Night Swing, Lincoln Center Out of Doors and White Light Festival.

The role of Part Time Usher is a part-time position and is on a performance call and as needed basis, based on the events scheduled in the halls. Ushers are generally scheduled for 4-hour shifts at a time, and hours can vary weekly and will include daytime, evening, weekend, and holiday shifts.

The Usher position is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (“CBA”) between Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Inc., and Local 306 IATSE. Employees are required to join the union. Terms and conditions of employment are subject to Lincoln Center’s policies and the CBA.


  • Greet patrons attending events presented at David Geffen Hall and Alice Tully Hall.
  • Take and validate event tickets at Hall entrances.
  • Distribute event materials to guests as needed.
  • Assist patrons with mobility devices into and out of performance spaces, and those requiring seating assistance within the Halls.
  • Provide accurate information about an event or venue upon request, including directions within and outside of the Halls, and other venues or attractions on campus.
  • Ensure performance house rules, such as entry, exit, late seating, photography etc. are adhered to, and maintain access control to performance areas.
  • Notify supervisory staff and/or security staff of any emergency situations immediately as they occur.
  • Exemplify guest excellence characteristics in all interactions with patrons, guests, and fellow co-workers.



  • Proven customer service experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and problem solve in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexible availability is a must, including being able to work during matinee, evening, and weekend performances
  • Position requires the ability to maneuver walkers and wheelchair equipment (occupied and unoccupied) on flat and inclined surfaces.
  • Additional requirements include ability to use ticket scanning devices, read and interpret ticket information, distribute and pick up playbills and other printed materials, open, close, and hold entrance doors to the Hall, and use electronic communications equipment to stay in contact with performance managers and take direction as needed.
