Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts Names Bret Silver

Chief Strategy and External Relations Officer

Fundraiser and Arts Executive Returns to Lincoln Center in Newly Created Role

New York, NY (July 21, 2017) — Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts announced today that Bret Silver has been named Chief Strategy and External Relations Officer, a new position, reporting to Lincoln Center President Debora L. Spar. In this role, he will oversee a wide swath of Lincoln Center initiatives, including the capital campaign for the redevelopment of David Geffen Hall. Silver comes to Lincoln Center from Barnard College, where he currently serves as Vice President for Development. Prior to his time at Barnard, he was Chief Development Officer and then Chief External Relations Officer at Jazz at Lincoln Center.

“I’m delighted Bret will join our incredible team at Lincoln Center,” said Spar. “I worked closely with Bret for a half-dozen years and was deeply impressed by his devotion to the arts and higher education. His experience will be a great asset to Lincoln Center as we focus on key initiatives, including expanding and diversifying our audiences and reimagining David Geffen Hall.”

Silver said, “It is an honor to work with Debora Spar once again, and to have this opportunity at such an exciting time. I’m thrilled to have a role planning Lincoln Center’s next chapter, including the important David Geffen Hall project.”

Before his work at Barnard and Jazz at Lincoln Center, Silver held senior positions at Carnegie Hall and the Whitney Museum of American Art. At Barnard, he was responsible for raising over $300 million for Barnard’s capital campaign, the largest in the college’s history.

In addition to his fundraising role, Silver will oversee other external relations, including digital branding, marketing, communications, government relations, and international outreach.

Silver will begin his new role in September.
