TO HOST MOBILE FOOD PANTRY FOR NEW YORKERS IN NEED
Employee staff, volunteers to distribute meat, produce, pantry items
to approximately 500 NYC families

WHAT: Wednesday, July 29, Food Bank For New York City will hold a mobile food pantry at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts to distribute food to approximately 500 families. Food offered will include fresh produce, shelf-stable pantry items, and 20,000 pounds of meat donated by Tyson Foods.
The food distribution at Lincoln Center falls on a statewide day of action to urge Congress to make additional investments in federal nutrition programs and invest in protections for low income Americans in the next COVID-19 stimulus bill, including a 15% increase in SNAP benefits for families in need.
With the economic fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic putting many people out of work and rapidly increasing the need for assistance, the demand on the emergency food network has surged. Food Bank For New York City reports that the vast majority of soup kitchens and food pantries have been serving more New Yorkers during the pandemic than they were previously: many agencies have seen their number of visitors double. Even before COVID-19, the demand for food was already high: nearly 1.2 million New Yorkers were already food insecure.
