DONALD B. MARRON NAMED CHAIRMAN OF LINCOLN CENTER VISUAL ARTS COMMITTEE



Noted art collector and Chief Executive Officer of Lightyear Capital, LLC, Donald B. Marron has been appointed Chairman of the Lincoln Center Visual Arts Committee for Lincoln Center it was announced today by Frank A. Bennack, Jr., Chairman, Lincoln Center. Mr. Marron’s appointment comes as Lincoln Center is transforming its campus through a major redevelopment initiative that will make the world’s leading performing arts center more open, transparent and accessible.


Commented Mr. Bennack, “Lincoln Center is home, not only to the finest in performing arts, but also to a significant collection of important modernist works by masters such as Jasper Johns, Louise Nevelson, Marc Chagall and Henry Moore. When Lincoln Center was created back in the 1950’s, the plans called for visual art to complement our architecture. Transforming our campus gives us the opportunity to consider anew the importance of visual arts for the 5 million people who visit here each year. Don is the ideal person to help lead this effort.”


Mr. Marron and a newly reconstituted visual arts committee will be focusing on defining the role visual arts should play in a redeveloped Lincoln Center campus. Among the areas Mr. Marron and the committee will be examining are:


  • The types of policies Lincoln Center should establish in connection with visual art displayed both inside its many performance halls and outdoors in its extensive public spaces

  • The desirability of developing an active acquisitions strategy for Lincoln Center

  • The role outside partnerships with visual arts organizations should play

  • The creation of a set of guidelines regarding visual arts gifts to Lincoln Center

  • Named one of the Top 200 art collectors in the U.S. by ARTnews magazine in 2004 and former President of the Museum of Modern Art, Mr. Marron is bringing an enormous breadth of experience in the visual arts to Lincoln Center. Mr. Marron also has been a prominent figure in the financial services industry for over 40 years, serving as chairman and chief executive officer of PaineWebber Group Inc. for 20 years until its merger in November 2000 with UBS AG. During Mr. Marron's tenure, PaineWebber grew into one of the nation’s largest full-service securities firms.

    Complementing Lincoln Center’s existing public art collection is The Lincoln Center List Print Program (www.LincolnCenter.org/printsposters). Established when Lincoln Center was first opened in 1962 by Albert and Vera List to make contemporary art available to the public, and to ensure that the artwork created for Lincoln Center is of the highest quality, the catalogue currently includes more than 200 commissioned works, Lincoln Center’s List Print Program is non-profit, with general sales proceeds going toward the support of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Inc., and the Program itself.
