Difret

Difret is Ethiopian-born writer/director Zeresenay Berhane Mehari’s beautiful portrayal of a country’s transformation toward equal rights for women. The film is based on the real-life story of a young girl who was kidnapped and abducted into marriage, a custom that is one of Ethiopia’s oldest traditions. The evening includes a performance by singer/songwriter Meklit Hadero.
