People Get Ready’s Steven Reker

Brooklyn-based People Get Ready is a four-piece band founded by Steven Reker in 2009. They are known primarily for their live performances, which are choreographed musical events that combine their indie rock sound with performance art. Reker, who has appeared either as a dancer or musician with a number of artists including David Byrne and Miranda July, plays guitar and sings, often while squatting, jumping, or generally adding movement to his music, making “each song a miniperformance” (New York Times). In July 2011, the band recorded its first album with help from musician Jherek Bischoff. Following the release of the self-titled album in 2012, they toured the US and Europe, earning critical acclaim for their live performances. The second CD, Physiques, came out in June 2014 and it was chosen for streaming by The New York Times on its website.

Tickets start at $30
