O Love Divine: Handel’s Vocal Music

Program 1: Theodora

The first program in this two-part series is a screening of the 2009 Salzburg Festival production of Handel’s oratorio Theodora, with Ivor Bolton leading the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra. Christine Schäfer sings the title role, with Bejun Mehta, Johannes Martin Krängle, Bernarda Fink, and Joseph Kaiser. Running time: 189 minutes.

Program 2: Alcina

The second program in this series features Acts II and III from Alcina in Adrian Noble’s daring 2010 production for the Vienna State Opera under the baton of Marc Minkowski. Also included is archival footage of two of the 20th century’s great Handel interpreters, joan Sutherland and Nicolai Gedda.
