Lincoln Center and Fathom Events Announce Collaboration for National Distribution of Performances By Four Leading American Dance Companies Beginning in Fall 2015
New York, NY (April 14, 2015) — Lincoln Center today announced a partnership with Fathom Events to distribute a new cinema series, Lincoln Center at the Movies. The series will launch in fall 2015 with Great American Dance featuring outstanding performances by four of America’s leading dance companies. Screenings will take place in hundreds of movie theaters nationwide. The participating companies and their programs, as well the screening schedule and movie theaters, will be announced this summer. Lincoln Center is the world’s leading performing arts center and Fathom Events the leading distributor of alternative entertainment in domestic cinema.
Lincoln Center at the Movies brings the best of the performing arts to national audiences through Fathom’s extensive network of movie theaters and will focus on the different art forms present on Lincoln Center’s campus.
Jed Bernstein, President of Lincoln Center, said, “We are thrilled to launch this collaboration with Fathom Events to bring incomparable performances representing a diverse range of American dance to audiences everywhere. As Peter Gelb and the Metropolitan Opera’s Live in HD program brilliantly enables hundreds of thousands to see great opera in movie theaters, our first project, the Great American Dance series, addresses the serious lack of American dance on our screens through this unprecedented initiative.”
John Rubey, CEO of Fathom Events, said, “We’re excited to add Lincoln Center at the Movies to our wide range of performing arts events in theaters. Not everyone has the ability to travel to major cities to see these productions live on stage, but now dance fans around the country can experience these astounding performances from the nation’s top dance companies right from their local movie theater.”
Great American Dance will be filmed in HD by the Emmy Award-Winning production team from Live From Lincoln Center, helmed by Executive Producer Andrew C. Wilk. Now in its 40th season, Live From Lincoln Center is a cornerstone of performing arts broadcasting, seen by millions of viewers annually on PBS. Recent program highlights include the Tony-nominated hit Broadway play The Nance and the critically-acclaimed Curtain Up, featuring students of the world-renowned School of American Ballet performing at the School’s 50th Annual Workshop.
